ACFC GETTING CREATIVE ABOUT FUNDRAISING

In order to fund their trip to the World Masters' Games this summer, members of the All Canadian Football Club (ACFC) got creative. The over-40 Burlington women's soccer team will travel to Torino, Italy for a ten-day tournament, competing against teams from around the globe.

In total, ACFC expects to need over $60,000 to cover tournament fees, accommodation, travel, uniforms and equipment. Additional, pre-tournament expenses include league fees and field time for practices.

"Thankfully, we have some amazing sponsors that have done a lot of the heavy-lifting for us." says team captain Leanne King, "With their financial support, our total bill is a lot less overwhelming."

To supplement the assistance from sponsors, team members took on a number of traditional fundraising activities, including poinsettia sales and a family bowling night. Realizing the limitations of repeatedly turning to family and friends, however, the team worked to find creative ways to fundraise on a smaller scale.

"We did a couple of things that really helped." says team Treasurer Judy Woehl, "We each have an account with Fundscrip, where our team earns a percentage of gift card purchases toward groceries, gas and other things that we use regularly. On the business side, we're looking for ways that smaller, local businesses can support us on a small business budget."

To provide direct value for small business owners, ACFC built a sponsor-friendly platform through Facebook. The team offers a $250 sponsorship level for Social Media Partners, where business partners are thanked and regularly promoted to the team's almost 200 followers. Members of ACFC are grateful for sponsorship at any level, believing in the notion that every contribution brings them closer to Torino.

To date, ACFC has three Gold Level sponsors (Halton SportsXpress, Locksley Sports Management Group and Comtech Credit Union), one Silver Level sponsor (Fionn MacCool's - Kitchener), eight Bronze Level sponsors (Thomas Cook Bel Air Travel, Tourism Synergy, Back on Track, Castello di Gabbiano, PMA Canada, Tin Cup Sports Grill, SCA Tissue and Pub Concepts) and two Social Media Partners (Dymond's Social Kitchen & Bar and The Rocca Sisters Team, Royal LePage).
